FAQS

Am I guaranteed tutoring work?2020-08-13T10:34:08+00:00

We cannot guarantee a constant stream of work. A lot is dependent on the time of year – there is always considerable demand at revision time, for example. Just like supply teaching, we can only give out assignments as and when they come in.

Am I self employed?2020-08-13T10:34:34+00:00

Yes. You will need to register as self employed with HMRC. It’s quick and easy to do online and won’t affect your work at school at all. You will be required to complete an annual self assessment to comply with HMRC rules.

How are jobs allocated between tutors?2020-08-13T10:34:59+00:00

We try and match our tutors and students carefully. If a student would like in-person tutoring or may move to in-person tutoring as soon as we are able, we match them with a tutor close by. Otherwise, we match on a rotating basis so everyone gets an opportunity for work.

Do I have to take a job that’s offered?2020-08-13T10:35:21+00:00

No you don’t. You are self employed and have control over your own client list and timetable. Just let us know if you do not want that particular job and we will pass it onto someone else.

How do I get paid?2020-08-13T10:36:15+00:00

Either you will be paid immediately after your lesson by the client. This is inclusive of the agency fee, which you will send at the end of the month along with the completed timesheet.

Or we can handle the payments for you. We can invoice the client and transfer the tutor fee direct to you once the client has paid us.

How do I send you the agency fees?2020-08-13T10:36:40+00:00

Either by cheque or preferably by bank transfer. We will send you more details once you are signed up!

Can I claim for travel time and travel expenses?2020-08-13T10:37:08+00:00

Travel costs are built into the client fee and therefore will be in your own time. If you take a job a considerable distance away and the client is agreeable, additional travel fees may be payable.  Please inform us of how far you are prepared to travel when you sign up.
